Three Tips for Heart-Healthy Eating at Home with Thalassa Restaurant

You’re going to want to bookmark this! I had the great pleasure of joining Executive Chef Rafael and Manager Tasso of Thalassa restaurant (a favorite Mediterranean haunt in the Big Apple) for a quick video on heart-healthy eating using Greek yogurt. New York magazine voted Thalassa as one of the top heart-healthy restaurants in the city.

Here are my cooking tips and entertaining tricks for the at-home chef to recreate some of Thalassa’s award-winning recipes:

Black Quinoa w/ Tzatziki Sauce on Crostini

Quinoa is an absolutely delicious Superfood, perfect for a quick side dish year-round. Tzatziki is one of my favorite condiments because it’s cooling, low-calorie, flavorful and it’s quick to make at home and store in your fridge for future meals.

Meals on Heels tip –> For vegans and those with gluten sensitivities, swap the crostini for cucumber or jicama slices which pack a refreshing and crispy bite.

Chilled Fava Bean Bisque w/ Greek Yogurt

Fava puree is very popular in the Spring, but I highly encourage you to try a Chilled Fava Bisque for your warm weather entertaining.

Meals on Heels tip –> Swap fava for peas in the Spring when in peak season. If entertaining and want less clean-up, serve the soup as an appetizer using a large vase as the soup vessel; ladle into shot glasses. For more Spring/Summer soup shooter recipes, click here.

Yogurt Martini w/ Fresh Tropical Fruit

To finish a delicious meal on a balmy night, serve an easy, refreshing dessert like Greek yogurt with tropical fruit and honey.

Meals on Heels tip –> Buy in-season local berries at your farmer’s market and let them macerate in honey. For more bang to your grocery buck, blend ingredients into a breakfast smoothie.
